Sleek and Sumptuous Poland Apartment

2:46 AM    No comments

This modern style apartment in Warsaw was sent to us by Nasciturus Design, and is a beautiful example of how to inject a shot of warm luxury through the cool color palettes and strong lines of contemporary living. The apartment has been decorated with the elegant tastes of a professional inhabitant in mind, as someone who might spend several days a week in the city of Warsaw for business, and therefore requires a home away from home with an option for entertaining.

All of the furniture was designed and manufactured by carpenters at the company Cedros, and combines traditional ideas and silhouettes with new age simplicity.

The master bedroom is decorated in calming tones, teamed with soft fabrics and over-sized cushioned headboard for a grand statement of luxury. More modern classics adorn the space, such as the ornate feature chair casually angled in the corner.

Located in Shizuoka, Japan, the ambiguous space has been created devoid of partitions to make free use of the space and enable the home dwellers to constantly see each other during daily life, which goes against the typical preconceptions of a Japanese home. Describing the conceptual process, the architects tell us: “First of all, we drew simple rectangles without any daring idea on the ground for suiting the cost. Second, we set up panels along the line. Then, we lined the kitchen, washroom, desk and storage shelves. The space is like a room, but it could also be a passage. In the middle of first and second, we created a free place. Top of the space there is a gable roof, it makes a new blank in the house. The blank is free, the sunlight and the wind comes into the space from aperture. In the evening you can hear the birds singing."

A married couple with three children inhabits the modern Japanese house that from the outside appears as a black cube, with an outer wall that screens the interior from the outside world completely. Once the door is opened, the warm yellow of larch plywood invites you in, and opens up before you like an ant’s nest.

Open Plan Home with Oomph

2:41 AM    No comments

The design scheme in an open plan home can at times appear at little lost in the generous expanse of space, where the eye is free to wander quickly over each zoning without ever resting on anything particularly interesting. Your job as the designer/owner of an open plan space is to temporarily stop those impatient wandering eyes at regular small intervals by installing interesting features, inviting the viewer to settle on and appreciate something, just for a second. This house by Fertility Design offers an insight into the art of creating character in such a space.

A letterbox of light flanks the dining place, creating ambient lighting as well as breaking a plain wall.

Zone pit stops can be created with the introduction of carefully placed pendant lights in strong colors; this interior uses bold black shades in varying shapes to draw the eye and define each area.
