Warringah House by Corben Architects

Corben Architects, an experienced, Sydney based, architectural practice committed to the creation of great buildings designed this luxurious and elegant house consist of four bedroom all with ensuites, including a magnificent master suite with private deck, study area, full bath room and dressing room in the Mosman neighborhood of Sydney, Australia. See the recently listed of this luxury homes at Richardson & Wrench.

From Corben Architects:

This project involved replacing a single storey house with a two storey one on a sensitive site with extensive water views. A simple rectilinear form was adopted, which was then carefully articulated with timber and sandstone cladding to present a modern 3-dimensional structure that fits well into its immediate context. Energy efficiency design principles were used throughout.

An operable skylight over the central core allows natural light and ventilation. Concrete floors and roof were used to maximise thermal mass and thermal comfort was enhanced with Low E glazing. Overhangs and screens were used for solar protection.

Simplicity of style, space and symmetry are spiced with hints of Morocco and echoes of the tropics in this truly magnificent contemporary residence. It's understated, uncompromised, it's an urbane home offering a sophisticated lifestyle for style conscious empty nesters or discerning professional couples.

Designed to maximise the uninterrupted Middle Harbour views and ideal northerly aspect, with a discreet street presence that hides the treasures within. Natural materials ... timbers, sandstone, marble and limestone unite with earthy simplicity to enhance impeccable interiors by Maryanne Collins where the focus is on a luxurious, practical, low-maintenance lifestyle.

Four bedrooms all with ensuites, including a magnificent master suite with private deck, study area, full bath room and dressing room. Separate study area on the main level, double lock-up garage with direct access to the entry court. Lifestyle technologies control the air conditioning, security and lighting.

This home is centered and balanced with a calming, nurturing aesthetic that feels simultaneously as warm and familiar as it does forward and modern." according to the architects.

Bel Air Residence By Gwathmey Siegel

Bel Air Residence By Gwathmey Siegel

The buildable site of this beautiful Bel Air Residence is an existing two-acre plateau, set sixty feet below the access road, affords panoramic views of Westwood, the Pacific Ocean, and the Canyon. The program, orientation, and topography provoked a composite courtyard parti that layers the site through the house, integrating the terraces and lawns. Designed by Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects, this Californian residence has everything for itself: a luxurious residential area – Bel Air, an impressive view on Westwood, the Pacific Ocean and the Canyon.

The primary volumetric element of the house, orienting south, west, and north, accommodates the dining room, kitchen/breakfast room, and staff apartment on the ground level; the game room and three children’s bedrooms on the second level; a guest suite, exercise room and a massage room on the third level.

The sauna building/guest house, as well as the pool and terrace, are located on the eastern portion of the site, extending the outdoor spaces and completing the overall site building design strategy.

Compositionally and formally, this house presents the most articulated, hierarchical, and consolidated plan graphic to date, which is further reinforced by its volumetric resolution. The primary sculptural element is the reverse cone at the west end of the circulation spine that anchors and orients the house to its site, as well as to its primary interior spaces.

The ground floor consists of several levels also following the downward slope. These levels divide the lavish loft-like living space into various functional areas, such as the fireplace and the lounge area. The kitchen as well as the dining area- and breakfast terrace are likewise connected to the main living space.

The surfaces on the ground floor are made of stone and wood, whereas the upper level has been given a special coating, creating a smooth white box. Various patios and terraces, as well as a swimming pool, are located around the building and create a seamless connection between the living space indoors and the landscape outdoors. A cantilevered structure is located above the ground floor and houses the private rooms. The steel columns are reduced to a minimum and follow the structural system.

A cantilevered box “floats” above the ground floor and houses some private rooms. Steel columns are reduced to a minimum and follow the structural system. The base of the building roughly follows the incline of the slope and is slightly terraced itself. The ground floor is open in all directions and creates a seamless connection between the living space indoors and the landscape outdoors.
